Recycling Ocean Carbon to Replace Fossil Fuels
Turning the world’s largest carbon sink into a scalable climate solution.
We must remove billions of tons of CO2 from the atmosphere to avoid the most severe consequences of climate change.
Recycling ocean carbon helps to solve three big problems
OCEON harnesses the unmatched carbon removal power of the oceans to capture CO₂ at scale
The ocean is Earth’s most powerful carbon sink — naturally absorbing more CO₂ than all forests and soils combined. Each year, it draws down over 10 billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, playing a silent but vital role in regulating our global climate. While engineered carbon capture technologies are being developed to address climate change, most are energy-intensive, expensive, and difficult to scale. Instead of reinventing nature’s ability to absorb carbon, we’re building a platform that works with it — extracting excess CO₂ directly from seawater where it’s most concentrated and stable.
But removing carbon is only half the opportunity. The hydrocarbons we rely on — from marine fuels to the building blocks of plastics — are overwhelmingly produced by digging carbon out of the ground (oil and gas) and adding it to the atmosphere. We flip that logic. By using recycled ocean carbon to produce drop-in replacements for fossil-fuel-derived hydrocarbons like methanol, we’re not only avoiding new emissions — we’re actually reversing them. Every gallon of product from our platform removes carbon from the cycle while delivering the same energy and chemical utility industries depend on today.
Our platform is designed to scale with global demand, integrate with existing infrastructure. It’s modular, clean, and carbon-negative — a new industrial model for climate-aligned growth. At OCEON, we’re not just capturing carbon. We’re turning it into products the world already runs on, giving markets a reason to decarbonize without compromise.
Remove Excess Carbon
Reduce New Carbon Emissions
We restore the ocean’s ability to pull CO₂ from the air by removing it directly from seawater, where it’s most concentrated. Every ton we take out makes room for more atmospheric carbon to flow in — driving large-scale, continuous climate drawdown.
Reduce Ocean Acidification
Our carbon-negative hydrocarbons are made from recycled ocean CO₂, not fossil fuels. Each gallon displaces its fossil equivalent and prevents new emissions from entering the atmosphere.
By removing CO₂ before it turns into carbonic acid, we help restore ocean pH, protecting reefs, marine life, and the ecosystems that sustain global biodiversity.

Building a Platform That Scales
Central to our solution is low cost, low energy extraction of the core hydrocarbon building blocks - excess CO2 and H2
-
OCEON’s platform integrates ocean carbon extraction, clean hydrogen production, and advanced hydrocarbon synthesis into a seamless, modular system. By working where carbon is most concentrated — in seawater — we maximize efficiency, minimize energy use, and create a direct pathway from CO₂ removal to market-ready fuels and chemicals.
-
Our products are chemically identical to today’s fossil-fuel-derived hydrocarbons, meaning they work in existing engines, pipelines, and industrial processes without modification. This “drop-in” compatibility eliminates costly infrastructure changes and accelerates adoption across global markets.
-
Every gallon we produce removes more carbon from the atmosphere–ocean system than it emits, delivering true carbon-negative performance. This not only meets but exceeds emerging climate regulations, creating both environmental impact and a competitive edge in low-carbon markets.
-
From port-scale plants producing thousands of tons per day to modular shipboard units making fuel at sea, our platform scales to match demand. The same core technology can be deployed anywhere there’s seawater and renewable power, enabling rapid global expansion.
-
Our process uses no toxic chemicals, emits no harmful waste, and returns water to the ocean cleaner than we found it. This ensures environmental integrity while producing fuels and chemicals that meet stringent safety and sustainability standards.
Markets
With extracted excess ocean carbon, we will create carbon-negative fuels and chemicals that replace their fossil counterparts.
-
Global shipping is pivoting toward low-carbon fuels, and methanol is emerging as the front-runner for decarbonizing maritime transport. OCEON’s ocean-carbon-based methanol delivers the same performance as fossil-derived methanol but with a carbon-negative footprint. By producing fuel directly at ports or on ships, we can supply the world’s largest shippers with scalable, cost-competitive solutions that meet new International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations and support their net-zero pledges.
-
Many essential products — from packaging to textiles — begin with hydrocarbons like ethylene and propylene. Today, these building blocks are made almost exclusively from fossil fuels. OCEON’s platform can produce these same molecules from recycled ocean carbon, enabling manufacturers to make everyday goods without adding new CO₂ to the atmosphere. This creates a pathway for sustainable plastics and chemicals across industries including consumer goods, automotive, and construction.
-
Beyond maritime methanol, our technology can produce a range of fuels including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), ammonia, and synthetic diesel. Each product offers a drop-in replacement for its fossil counterpart, enabling decarbonization in sectors that are otherwise hard to abate. By diversifying fuel output, we can serve multiple industries — aviation, trucking, rail — from the same core platform, expanding market reach and resilience.
-
Every ton of carbon removed by OCEON can generate high-quality, verifiable carbon credits. These credits can be sold into voluntary or compliance carbon markets, creating an additional revenue stream while helping companies meet their emissions targets. Our ability to produce both carbon-negative fuels and tradable credits positions us uniquely in the climate economy, capturing value from both the product and the removal itself.
Our first product is Methanol
OCEON’s carbon-negative methanol offers the shipping industry a direct path to meet tightening IMO emissions targets without sacrificing performance or cost competitiveness. As a true drop-in fuel, it can power existing and next-generation methanol-ready vessels, enabling operators to cut lifecycle emissions, avoid future carbon penalties, and demonstrate climate leadership — all while securing a stable, scalable fuel supply.
Megaton-Class Methanol at the World’s Ports
OCEON’s port-based plants deliver 2,000–3,000 metric tons of carbon-negative methanol every day — enough to meet the full bunkering needs of the largest shipping hubs. By producing fuel directly where ships refuel, we eliminate transport and storage costs, ensuring immediate, on-demand supply. Our modular, replicable plant design allows rapid deployment across a global network of ports, enabling fleet operators to secure consistent, low-cost, low-carbon fuel at every major stop on their route.
Onboard, On-Demand Methanol Production
Our compact, integrated methanol units turn seawater into 25–50 metric tons of fuel per day, generated continuously while at sea. This onboard production model frees ships from the constraints of fuel storage and port bunkering schedules, allowing operators to increase cargo capacity, improve operational flexibility, and achieve true energy independence. With OCEON onboard, vessels can sail further, bunker less, and operate with a lower carbon footprint — all without changing how they run today.
